Pop Up Power flip-lid units help world-class matchday hospitality at newly redeveloped Lord’s

  • 10 Jun 2021

Pop Up Power Supplies® provides in-ground, flip lid power units as part of the £52m redevelopment of Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The latest stage of a 20-year masterplan by owners Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), this extensive development scheme involves the construction of the Compton and Edrich stands at the Nursery end to increase the ground’s capacity by 2,600 up to 31,600.

These new three-tiered stands, designed by two-time Stirling Prize winners WilkinsonEyre, vastly improve the sightlines and drastically reduce the amount of restricted view seats, whilst creating two restaurants and 12 food and drink units.

PUPS02-6060 in-ground power units

With matchday hospitality of significant importance to the visitor experience, the scheme’s designers ensure the use of outdoor areas are to their full potential. Five PUPS02-6060 in-ground power units make this possible. These feature in the food village and Nursery Ground areas.

They are a key part of the infrastructure that enables the serving of high quality food and drink to large matchday crowds in outdoor spaces – made all the more important due to the pandemic, which has increased the public appetite to stay outdoors as much as possible.

These flip-lid units are submerged in the ground to provide food stall operators and caterers with access to power sockets on-demand, minimising trip hazards as only short cables protrude and enable the delivery of a continuous power supply, as locking the lid down for maximum safety is easy to do.

A mix of 16, 32 and 63 amp configurations for the in-ground units accommodate the specific requirements of the spaces. The units’ flip lids are designed to match the surrounding surface to minimise their visual impact and mean they are virtually unnoticeable when not in use.

The PUPS02-6060 units are part of a range of in-ground and retractable power units available from Pop Up Power Supplies®.

All offer a versatile solution for providing power in public spaces of all kinds with past installations at a diverse range of sites, including Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge stadium, the Cutty Sark visitor attraction, Caerphilly Castle, and the Glass Works, Barnsley’s multi-million pound town centre redevelopment.

The company also offers a range of elegant stainless steel bollards with integrated power sockets to add functionality in any streetscape or public space.
