Protan provides solution for final phase of regeneration

  • 14 Aug 2017

Walsall Waterfront in the heart of the Black Country is in its second and final phase of regeneration.

This final phase includes the culmination of Kier Property’s redevelopment of 17 acres of previously vacant and derelict land to the north of the town centre.  The ultimate element is the construction of two units- one some 570m2, divided into three, and the other a stand-alone 325m2 structure.

Main contractor PPE has employed sub-contractor FCB Roofing to handle the construction of the roofs on both buildings.

Protan SE1.6mm thick polyester-reinforced PVC single ply membrane covers the shallow pitch metal deck, mechanically fixed, and detailed around the M&S penetrations and access hatches on each block.

FCB Roofing’s Alan Horton, “One of the main objectives of the strategy behind the development is the delivery of high quality public realm, using appropriate materials to help ensure provision of well-designed, sustainable buildings. We have an established relationship with PPE, based on and as a result of Protan, so the brand was a preferred choice from the outset.”

Protan SE membrane is certified to deliver, and potentially surpass, the energy efficiency requirements laid down in Approved Document L, and, under the Green Guide, achieve an A+ rating. Protan membranes achieve durability in excess of 30 years, with air leakage controlled in line with latest Building Regulations, and are fully BBA certified.
