Prefabricated roofing system supplied to Festive factory

Protan PVC membrane delivers prefabricated roofing solution

  • 15 Aug 2016

Festive Productions, a British producer of Christmas decorations, has benefited from the installation of a new, weathertight roof, featuring Protan’s SE 1.2mm PVC membrane.

The factory’s original roof – which had been in place since its construction in 2000 – was beginning to fail, prompting the company to seek a repair option.

A new roof, which spans 9,300 square metres, was achieved within a three month time frame. Prefabricated systems and methods of construction were used to ensure a quick turnaround.

JDB was contracted to deliver a suitable roofing solution, working in conjunction with Tuffin Ferraby & Taylor (TFT) and Protan. The existing EPDM membrane and insulation was stripped and upgraded, before the team worked to remove the gutters down to the metal deck for replacement.

As Protan’s SE 1.2mm PVC membrane was laid, the re-roof was realised. The prefabricated solution was delivered to site in 4 metre widths; as many of the seams were already welded, time and labour costs saw a significant reduction.

The membrane has been designed to withstand adverse weather conditions for up to 30 years. It is manufactured to order; Protan minimises waste in production by using its Proplan software to determine the most efficient usage of material.

This method also ensures that the material is made to size. When it is delivered to site, all the contractor has to do is fix along the edges and detail around penetrations.
