RAF Nursery security by ASSA ABLOY UK Specification

  • 5 Mar 2018

ASSA ABLOY UK Specification has delivered a variety of solutions for a new Oxfordshire-based RAF nursery, providing assured access and safety for children using the facility.

Working alongside designers Frankham Consultancy Group and contractors Antac, the company specified door opening solutions to RAF Benson’s new nursery.

The RAF base sought an extension to its nursery facilities, furthering its capacity to cater for over 100 children. This meant the specification process needed products which were fully compliant and tailored to the needs of the young children that would be using this facility.

Products featured included the DC500A CAM-Motion® door closer, which delivers a low opening force yet provides requisite closing forces to meet fire legislation, along with ASSA strong modular high-security deadlocks.

Also involved were P600 cylinders, which ensure keys cannot be duplicated by unauthorised parties, and ScanFlex door furniture, offering classy Scandinavian design in a hardy stainless steel.

The doorsets were all oak laminate with a horizontal grain, complete with easy-to-clean PVC edges and factory-painted frames, meaning the products arrived on site in their finished condition, ready for quick installation.

Bearing in mind this is primarily for the safety of young children, solutions such as ASSA finger guards, which protect children from accidentally trapping their fingers in doors, and thumb turn locks for the toilets, which were fitted at a lower height, were other vital considerations.

Matthew Beech, Associate at Frankham Consultancy Group, was full of praise for ASSA ABLOY UK Specification, saying a key benefit of working with them was that they supply factory-fitted ironmongery doorsets, as it reduces the amount of on-site workmanship required.

He also recognised the quality of service, describing it as ‘excellent’. He added they were ‘very efficient in following up any queries’.

Doug Swadling, Site Manager from Antac, described installation as a ‘smooth process’ and the end result as ‘fantastic’, also stating they received regular contact with the project manager, with any questions answered immediately.

David Shields, Specification Development Manager at ASSA ABLOY UK Specification, added: “The plans for the build were incredibly multifaceted, but as we have access to such a wide range of products, we were able to adapt and supply a bespoke specification.”
