Todays Buildingtalk newsletter marked Armistice Day – with our thanks and respect for the men and women who fought in The Great War that began 100 years ago.

My grandfather, Harold Preece, was badly injured at the battle of the Somme. He survived the war but was tormented all his life. I was at the Cenotaph on Sunday to remember him and applaud the 10,000 servicemen and their families who marched past with such dignity.

I also visited the remarkable and moving Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation at the Tower of London.

We recently found out about the support provided by Johnson Tiles in making these beautiful ceramic poppies.

Round-up of latest construction industry news

  • how wireless locks reduce energy bills
  • the role of bricks in sustainable building
  • spotlight on the construction fire safety supply chain

The latest online Saint-Gobain Debate concluded that 2015 could well be the year of mega-mergers in the construction sector, with confident capital taking advantage of difficult times.
