From gender equality to the fight against climate change through clean water and responsible production, RENOLIT commits to pursuing 11 (out of 17) sustainable development goals.
Producing better using less resources, paying more attention to people, offering innovative and sustainable solutions. It is not a declaration of intent, it is the way RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products are implemented.
The company has long focused on the introduction of concrete measures aimed at circular economy and resource optimisation. Working with collaborators and business partners to achieve the strategic goal of sustainability through the three pillars – People, Planet and Profit.
From 2009 to today, the production has increased by 127%, but for the production of each square metre of membrane, savings are up to 20% of electricity, 35% of water resources and 38% of gas.
Therefore, the corporate social responsibility strategy set goals to achieve 11 out of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. This is in line with the overall strategy of RENOLIT group.
The solutions of the Blue roof and Green roof recuperating rainwater and preserving biodiversity are intertwined with Objectives 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 13 (Climate Action) and 15 (Life on Land).
An important contribution comes from RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Bright Cool roof that reflects sunlight and absorbs less heat and RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Smart Cool roof that lowers the temperature.
In addition to Goals 9, 11 and 13, they also contribute to the achievement of objectives 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
RENOLIT ALKORPLAN Solar, a perfect accessory for synthetic roofs that house photovoltaic systems, helps achieve objectives 7 and 9. RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products also participate in the Operation Clean Sweep program, aimed at ensuring that no plastic particles end up in the oceans, contributing to the achievement of Objectives 6 (Clean water) and 14 (Life Below Water).
Participation in the Operation Clean Sweep program also contributes to Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) together with EPD certifications, OpEx policies, recycling department and sustainability manager.
Last but not least, RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products also have a very active Equality Commission (SDG 5 Gender Equality). They also cooperate with several international associations in order to reach common objectives about the recycling of plastic materials and the sustainability of the buildings: VinylPlus, Circular Plastics Alliance, ESWA, GBC (SDG 17 Partnership for the goals).
RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products is headquartered in Sant Celoni, north of Barcelona.
Jennifer Che, Sustainability Manager at Sant Celoni, comments: “RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products are constantly working on sustainable solutions for people and the environment.
“For example, by producing membranes whose properties give greater energy efficiency to buildings, thus reducing CO₂ emissions and increasing the use of recycled materials.”
Luca Gottardi, Marketing Director of RENOLIT ALKORPLAN roofing products, comments: “The SDGs are an excellent guide to true sustainability, that applies at several levels. Not only factory and products, but also specific solutions and logistics.”
As a result, today, on average, every square meter of membrane contains 50% of recycled material. Moreover, 8,500 tons of product are recycled every year and 8% of the total workforce is constantly engaged in the recycling process.
