Spring has finally sprung, and thoughts are turning to general maintenance outside the home. Safeguard’s Stormdry Masonry Protection Cream is the best way to keep exterior walls clean and dry. Apply just one coat for 25 years of BBA approved, breathable, waterproofing protection. Waterproofing the wall surface prevents mould and algae growth.
Rising damp introduces efflorescent salts into the lower part of the wall; this is called crypto-efflorescence. This type of dampness causes spalling in old and weak bricks when it becomes trapped. Stormdry Cream should only be applied above the Damp-Proof Course (DPC) line to prevent crypto-efflorescence.
Here’s how to keep external walls pristine below the DPC line…
You can clean below the DPC line (as well as above if necessary) with SoluGuard Multi-Surface Biocide.
SoluGuard Multi-Surface Biocide is a high-strength biocide for removing algae, fungi and moss growth from a wide range of substrates including brick. It comes ready-to-use and can be applied with a brush, roller or low-pressure pump-action sprayer. Treat then wash away with clean water after 72 hours to ensure all biological growth is fully removed.
Wash periodically to ensure the bottom of your wall stays as pristine as the rest of it.
To properly protect your rendered exterior wall from algae growth below the DPC line…
Carefully remove the existing render. Apply Drybase Tanking Slurry below the DPC line (see the datasheet for full application instructions). Render atop the fully cured surface for a dry and algae-free wall.
These simple steps keep exterior walls clear and clean with as minimal fuss as possible. Withstand the Great British weather all year round with Stormdry and Soluguard.
