Leading aluminium fenestration solutions manufacturer Senior Architectural Systems has been officially presented with the King’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation following an exclusive event held at the company’s South Yorkshire manufacturing facility on Tuesday 10th September.
The company was honoured in the innovation category in recognition of the design, development, and delivery of its market-leading PURe® aluminium window system that features a patented thermal barrier to reduce heat loss and provide exceptional energy-efficiency.
The ceremony was conducted by the Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Dame Hilary Chapman DBE and Lieutenancy Officer Phil Barraclough, who presented Senior’s managing director Mark Wadsworth with an official certificate known as a Grant of Appointment and a commemorative crystal trophy. Other notable guests included Civic Mayor of Doncaster Councillor Julie Grace, Mayor of Rotherham Sheila Cowen, Master Cutler Charles Turner from The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire and South Yorkshire High Sheriff John Baddeley.
The group of local dignitaries and special guests were also invited to take a tour of Senior’s headquarters in Denaby, where they were invited to take a closer look at the company’s manufacturing capabilities and also meet members of staff.
Established in 1991, Senior has grown to become the largest privately owned aluminium fenestration systems house in the UK and continues to be at the forefront of the development of energy-efficient aluminium windows, doors, and curtain wall systems. In 2015, Senior launched its advanced low U-value PURe® aluminium system, for which it received a UK patent the following year. This unique system features a highly-efficient expanded polyurethane (PUR) thermal barrier, which gives the PURe® system exceptional thermal performance.
As well as helping to prevent heat loss to reduce energy consumption, the PURe® system also offers ‘cradle to cradle’ recyclability, with even the PUR thermal barrier able to be reused with no requirement for landfill. Over the last decade, Senior has continued to develop and extend its PURe® range to include a variety of window styles and both commercial and residential door options.
The company’s patented PURe® window system can also achieve U-values as low as 0.71W/m2K when calculated as a commercial CEN Standard window to comfortably meet the latest targets set out by Part L of the Building Regulations.
Mark Wadsworth, Senior Architectural Systems’ managing director, comments: “Being recognised with a King’s Award for Enterprise is one of our proudest moments as a company and so it was a real honour to be able to host such a special event here at our Denaby site and to share it with all of our team.
“It was also a privilege to welcome the Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire and our other special guests to take a tour of our facility and to see first-hand the work and innovation that goes in creating our award-winning PURe® aluminium windows and doors.”
Senior was one of the first ever recipients of the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise following the official announcement on Friday 21st April 2023. The King’s Award for Enterprise recognises and celebrates business excellence across the UK, focusing on the four categories of innovation, sustainable development, international trade, and the promotion of opportunity through social mobility.
The King’s Awards for Enterprise was previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, and the new name reflects His Majesty The King’s desire to continue the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II by recognising outstanding UK businesses. The Award programme, now in its 57th year, is the most prestigious business award in the country, with successful businesses able to use the esteemed King’s Awards Emblem for the next five years.
