Senior Architectural Systems, the UK’s largest privately owned manufacturer of aluminium fenestration solutions, has partnered with a local secondary school to give students a new view of potential careers within the construction industry.
South Yorkshire based Senior has been working with Sir Thomas Wharton Academy, which is based nearby in Doncaster, to support the school’s Better Learners Better Workers Programme.
As part of this initiative Senior’s managing director Mark Wadsworth, technical director Mark Wheatley and marketing coordinator Katie Neale met with staff and students to share more about the company, its work, the wider fenestration and construction industries, and most importantly, what career opportunities are available for the next generation.
The interactive session also encouraged students to get ‘hands on’ with a fun practical task that required the students to work as a team and develop their problem-solving skills.
Mark Wadsworth comments: “We were thrilled to be invited to work with Sir Thomas Wharton Academy as part of its Better Learners Better Workers Programme as it really is so important that we look to promote the construction industry and engage with young people as early as possible.
“The future success of the fenestration industry is reliant on plugging the skills gap and attracting people with new and fresh ideas and we are committed to being a part of the solution to this problem. It was a real privilege to work with a school within our local area and I hope that students will consider a future career in construction!”
Senior Architectural Systems is one of the biggest names in the UK fenestration industry offering an extensive product range of fully recyclable and energy-efficient aluminium doors, windows and curtain wall systems.
With a successful track record of work in both the residential and commercial sectors, Senior was named as one of the winners of the first ever King’s Award for Enterprise in April 2023, receiving the Innovation accolade in recognition of its patented thermally-enhanced and Part L compliant PURe® aluminium windows and doors system.
The Better Learners Better Workers Programme has been developed for students in Year 9 and Year 10 with the aim of providing young people with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they will need to be successful in their future working lives.
