Single ply roofing membrane extends leisure centre’s lifespan

As part of its recent refurbishment, Uttoxeter Leisure Centre was fitted with Protan’s SE single ply roofing membrane

East Staffordshire Borough Council invested £3.9 million into the refurbishment of Uttoxeter Leisure Centre, upgrading its surviving facilities and adding new ones.

Whilst the centre’s existing sports hall and pool have been preserved, a new steel frame block has been added.

Its new facilities include changing rooms, a dance studio, a caf_ and viewing facilities for spectators.

Single ply roofing membrane from Protan

2,000 square metres of Protan’s SE single ply roofing membrane has been used to create a roof over the extended centre.

The SE 1.6mm standard overlap membrane was supplied in a dark grey shade and mechanically fixed to protect the new additions to the leisure centre.

The membrane, which is also available at 1.2mm and 1.8mm thick, has been designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and minimise air leakage.

It is hot-air welded at joints and mechanically fixed to the roof, giving it a life expectancy of around 30 years.

Its longevity was what originally attracted the East Staffordshire Borough Council to it; they were equally as impressed with its aesthetically pleasing design.

The membrane is also certified to deliver the energy efficiency requirements which are set under the Green Guide and in Approved Document L, making it an environmentally friendly solution.
