Slip resistant stair-nosing profiles specified for Derby Arena

  • 24 Aug 2015

The 5,500-seat Derby Arena is only one of five such venues in the UK, having opened its doors to the public in March this year.

Schluter’s stair-nosing profiles have been installed at Derby Arena to offer greater slip-resistance and safety.

The venue features a 250 metre cycle track and an infield track which will host other sports and events including badminton, basketball, netball, volleyball, martial arts and table tennis. The grounds will also contain a 150-station gym, in addition to group exercise studios and a cafe.

The arena will also be used as a music venue.

Slip-resistant finishing profiles

The Schlüter-TREP-B profiles are designed to protect tiled stair edges in areas subjected to heavy pedestrian traffic.

The product was specified for its robust edge detailing, designed to offer ideal protection for ceramic stairs.

The profiles feature a trapezoid-perforated anchoring leg, secured in the mortar bond coat beneath the tile and support a slip-resistant thermoplastic rubber wear surface.

The tread surface of Schlüter TREP-B is available in a variety of colours – in this instance the profiles were customised with yellow inserts to coordinate with the arenas colour scheme, which is based on the Olympic colours.

Carl Stokes, Head of Marketing and Customer Service, commented: “We are very proud that are product was chosen to help this innovative new arena realise its vision and become a truly unique venue equipped to welcome thousands of visitors through its doors.”
