Solutions from CMS revitalise Scottish school

  • 26 Jan 2018

CMS Window Systems has delivered fenestration solutions for a contemporary primary school in the Scottish Borders, breathing new life into what was an unused high school.

The new £8.6m Duns Primary School and educational campus offers top quality learning for more than 450 students and is also home to the Berwickshire Locality Support Centre which gives help to children with additional needs.

A lengthy refurbishment scheme saw an entire replacement of the two-store building’s windows, doors and curtain walling. What was vital in making a success of the transformation was to ensure as much of the existing school was preserved as could be.

CMS Window Systems manufactured and installed 223 windows, 14 doors and 125 square metres of aluminium curtain walling, which were all created using Kawneer systems.

Their slim profiles meant fine aesthetics were guaranteed, with excellent thermal and acoustic performance also assured.

The windows, doors and curtain walling have a low overall U-value, with an optimum balance of solar gain and natural light transmission to help provide a comfortable, productive learning environment.

Andy Kerr, Managing Director at CMS Window Systems, described it as an ‘excellent example’ of how Scotland’s architectural heritage can be maintained, whilst providing quality new facilities to support the government’s goals for improvement in educational achievement.
