Structural support for new student accommodation blocks

NVELOPE’s NV2 system has been used to provide structural support for the new accommodation blocks

Nottingham Trent University has recently invested in the re-development of its student accommodation facility, Byron House.

The re-build has led to the creation of four new accommodation blocks for the university’s students.

Located near to Nottingham’s city centre, the new blocks have been designed with a mixture of cladding types for a striking aesthetic.

Aluminium rainscreen cladding from Downer and terracotta tiles from Telling Architectural are two examples of the facades used to create a contemporary look.

NVELOPE NV2 system

Two of the new accommodation blocks have benefited from the installation of NVELOPE’s NV2 system.

Manufactured from aluminium alloys, the system has been developed for structural bond and concealed fix vertical cladding applications.

NVELOPE’s T and L profiles are fitted with its support brackets, which absorb wind loading and allow for contraction and expansion.

The brackets provide flexibility for the cladding by allowing for adjustment between the face of the primary support to the outer face of the vertical profile.

This flexibility enables the cladding to expand and contract when under strain from strong winds and other harsh weather conditions.

NVELOPE’s NV2 is available as a pre-assembled system with thermal isolators incorporated.

The isolators have been included within the system’s design to prevent a chemical reaction from occurring between the aluminium bracket and the line in a concrete frame.

They also help to reduce thermal bridging.
