StructureGuard breather membrane wraps Fforest Timber’s latest build

  • 7 Dec 2016

Fforest Timber Engineering has utilised DuPont Tyvek’s latest membrane solution for a three storey, two block standalone development in Aberdare, Wales.

image007The development comprises two blocks, standing at 981 square metres and 255 square metres, which replace a former theatre in the town centre. The blocks form an attractive configuration, with a pitched slate roof and an elegant facade in painted blockwork and render with stone elements.

During the construction process, Developer WDL Homes and Fforest Timber specified Tyvek’s StructureGuard solution. The membrane was used to protect the project’s timber elements during an eight week interval between installing the membrane and applying the external skin.

The recently launched DuPont Tyvek StructureGuard is a lightweight and durable breather membrane that features excellent vapour diffusion, superior water hold out (above W1 at 1500mm) and robust wind washing resistance.

Ideal for both off-site and on-site applications, the BBA certified membrane is compatible with all specialised tapes and sealants. StructureGuard forms a “cocoon” around a structure to protect its insulation and enhance thermal efficiency.

Susan Brewer of Fforest Timber commented: “As expected the application in the factory went very smoothly and quickly and StructureGuard has done precisely what it was intended to do, protect a considerable investment from the elements and allow the construction process to continue as efficiently as possible.”
