Stunning East India Docks regeneration by Ahmarra

  • 13 Feb 2019

Ahmarra have carried out an external decking and purpose made Iroko seating and cladding contract at the regeneration development at the old East India Docks.

The complex of five buildings, which was built during the 1980s, is being remodelled and renovated to ensure it meets present day standards, whilst also injecting new life into this forgotten corner of London.

Part of the old docks were reconfigured into a central canal during the 80s and it was felt the large expanse of water needed a ‘Garden Force’ makeover, consisting of new platforms and covered decks where office workers and the passing public could relax in more pleasant surroundings.

This objective has been achieved, with the revitalised area has receiving high praise. New to the complex are shops, restaurants, cafes and a gym, adding a vibrancy of the area.

This project comprises part of a large-scale development called ‘Republic’, with Ahmarra previously completing a 10-storey atrium for the building, which has since been named Commercial Project of the Year at the Structural Timber Awards.

Main Contractor, Galliford Try plc, selected Ahmarra as specialist sub-contractor having worked together in a number of successful projects previously.

Richard Panrucker, Ahmarra Installation’s Director, commented: “We are delighted to be associated with such a prestigious project and hope to continue our successful relationship with Galliford Try and the architect, Studio RHE.”
