A village has had help gearing up for the Tour De Yorkshire, courtesy of a donation from Crown Paints.

Ackworth, in West Yorkshire, features on the race’s route, with competitors passing through during stage two of the competition, held in May.

The community will be adorned in hues of yellow and blue, featuring specially made bunting to coincide with the Tour De Yorkshire branding.

As part of the project, the village’s parish council is decorating 20 bikes to be placed along the stretch of highway used for the race through Ackworth and surrounding areas.

Crown Paints’ superior performance yellow paint is create an incredible aesthetic impact that keeps in with the colour scheme.

Products used include Crown Trade Protective Coatings High Build Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer/Undercoat and Crown Trade High Performance Gloss for Metal.

Jessica Carrington, a local District Councillor, who is involved in the project, said the race is a great opportunity to bring the community together, adding they were really looking forward to decorating the village, which had been made easier thanks to the Crown Paints donation.

Craft workshops will take place in the village ahead of the race to encourage locals to get involved with the event, including helping to paint the bikes loaned by Wakefield Council.

Dave Burkett, Business Development Manager at Crown Paints, said it is great the people of Ackworth are going to so much effort for the Tour De Yorkshire and described it as a great opportunity to ‘inject some colour into the village.’
