  • Designed to optimise the use of space on a constrained site using a digitally fabricated timber structure.
  • Forms neat transition between neighbouring homes.
  • Achieves an energy performance of Level 4 from the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The walls floors and roof were built from cross laminated timber panels, forming a air-tight shell to eliminate draughts. This in turn supports a continuous layer of insulation to eliminate any cold bridge.

NorDan’s products were specified for their excellent thermal performance using only double glazed units and timber frames – which reduce its carbon footprint.

A clear lacquer finish was chosen for the interior of the frames, to emphasise the natural aesthetic of the wood, and an external aluminium cladding was anodised to a bespoke colour to match the design.

Code for Sustainable Homes

The Code for Sustainable Homes sets targets for energy performance and water usage, that have been adopted as policies by the local council and made mandatory for planning permission. The criteria covers:

  • Building fabric (insulation and air-tightness).
  • Services such as heating, hot water and photovoltaic on-site elecrticity generation.
  • Total water usage
