UK Specification development achieves RIBA recognition

A specification for an eco-friendly motorway services, delivered by ASSA ABLOY UK Specification, has been honoured on the 2016 RIBA National Awards List for architectural excellence.

Designed by Glenn Howells Architects, the new Gloucester Services blends into the rolling Cotswold landscape; close attention has been paid to preserving the views from the surrounding area, as well as minimising the environmental impact of the development.

Initiated by a local charity, Gloucestershire Gateway Trust, the project was built using materials from local businesses. It officially opened in 2015.

RIBA National Awards List

The development has earned a place on the 2016 RIBA National Awards List, among 45 other UK buildings.

Receiving RIBA recognition for its aesthetic and sustainable contribution to architecture, the Gloucester Services has been dubbed a ‘testament to what can be achieved through collaboration.’

ASSA ABLOY UK Specification, which supplied a comprehensive specification to the project, commended the development for supporting local businesses whilst maintaining and balancing aesthetics and sustainability.
