Waterproofing for wine cellar

  • 19 Feb 2015

Triton’s TT Waterstop, a hydrophilic strip embedded in TT Swellmastic, was used to waterproof the construction joints

The basement of the new property, which will be used as a wine cellar, has been constructed from concrete.

Triton’s TT Admix has been designed as a chemical treatment that allows for the waterproofing and protection of concrete.

The admix is added to the concrete at the time of batching in order to make the material watertight.

In order to do so, the chemicals in the admix react with the fresh concrete to create a crystalline formation. This helps to seal the concrete and prevent water or liquid from penetrating it.

Waterproofing membrane

An internal Platon Cavity Membrane system was also installed in the new basement.

The system consisted of deep studded Platon P20, which was laid on the ground, and Platon P8, which was fixed to the wine cellar’s walls.

As soon as the membrane has been fitted, workers can plaster the wall surfaces and screed the floors.

A floating dry board system can also be installed once the membrane is secure.

To remove any water that may enter the basement behind the membrane, Aqua Channel drainage and an Aqua Pump Pro Plus sump and pump system, complete with a battery back up pump, was installed.

These systems have been designed to drain and pump away any unwanted water.
