Wienerberger has issued its final delivery of building materials to HPBC (Housing People, Building Communities), helping the charity to complete its prestigious affordable housing development.

Wienerberger began working with the Liverpool-based housing charity in 2012; since then, it has donated over 1,800 square metres of roof felt, 17,000 roof tiles, approximately 10,000 engineered bricks and 88,000 individual blocks of paving to the organisation.

The company’s contribution has assisted HPBC in completing its affordable housing project: according to the charity, Wienerberger’s support has saved the project around £43,000.

The aim of the project was to improve Liverpool’s affordable housing stock. Relying on the support of volunteers, future homeowners and financial donations, the charity has succeeded in bringing 32 new homes to the city’s Toxteth area.

The homes are available on a ‘shared sweat’ scheme, which gives future homeowners the opportunity to receive a £10k discount on the properties by helping to build them.

To celebrate the completion of the project – and to honour the successful relationship between HPBC and Wienerberger – the company’s Director of Marketing, Annette Forster, visited the site.

She was introduced to the team and both current and future residents, whose lives have been improved by the initiative.

The development has received extensive industry recognition: HPBC has achieved the National Housing Award for ‘Most Innovative/Specialist Solution and the First Time Buyer Readers’ Award for ‘Best Housing Alliance’.

The initiative also won the ‘Best Community-led Initiative’ at the 2014 UK Housing Awards.
