HafenCity University’s new access control system has been incorporated with ASSA ABLOY’s Aperio wireless lock technology

Located on the southern bank of the Grasbrook. a redevelopment area in Hamburg, HafenCity’s new university establishment has been built for use by over 2,000 students and 460 members staff.

The new building includes seminar rooms, laboratories and offices for research groups, as well as a library and a media centre.

To protect its facilities, staff and students, the university specified an electronic access control system from SIEMENS, which incorporates ASSA ABLOY’s wireless lock technology, Aperio.

In total, the site has been fitted with around 500 Aperio Offline electronic cylinders, which are battery-powered and connected to the SIEMENS access control system.

RFID-enabled smart cards have been supplied to the university’s staff and students, allowing them to open doors and gain access to the building and its facilities.

Aperio has been designed to be flexible: additional doors can be fitted with its wireless Offline electronic cylinders and added to the access control system whenever necessary.

The validity period can also be adjusted for different use authorisations, which enhances security as well as Aperio’s flexibility.
