Zoo Hardware launches faster-to-fit flush hinge

  • 3 Jan 2024

Zoo Hardware, a leading manufacturer of door hardware, launches a new range of flush hinges that are installable up to three times faster than traditional butt hinges.

The new ZHSSFH-243 series uses a concept commonly used with cupboard or cabinet doors, otherwise known as an interleaf hinge, to offer a unique flush design for full size internal residential door sets. The design removes the need for morticing into a door leaf or frame with a more traditional butt hinge, whilst also eliminating the need for intumescent material, if the hinge is being fitted to a fire rated door.

Successfully tested in accordance with the requirements of BS EN 1935:2002 grade 11, the ZHSSFH-243 series is CE and UKCA marked, and is suitable for use on internal residential non-fire-rated or 30-minute fire rated timber fire doors, weighing up to 80kg.

Time trial

The new fully tested and certificated hinge was recently fitted on a typical residential door as part of a time trial, with experienced UK joiner Scott Smith from SA Joinery. The test demonstrated that the time taken to fit three flush hinges compared to three butt hinges was greatly reduced. This can deliver significant time and cost savings for joiners, housebuilders and developers, when applied to multiple doors per property.

Manufactured from stainless steel, the Grade 11 bearing hinge is available with square corners in nine standard and contemporary finishes, including polished chrome and on-trend black, satin bronze and satin brass.
