Aggregate provides speedy solution for race track

Aggregate Industries recently supplied its innovative Supreme asphalt to Goodwood House to repair the ‘The Arena’ ahead of the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Festival of Speed includes multiple stands, exhibitions and circuits, showcasing and testing an array of vehicles and driving skills; the most prominent of these being the world-famous hill climb.

With less than two days to go before this year’s event, civil engineering contractors Tidey and Webb Ltd were contacted by the Goodwood Events Management team regarding urgent resurfacing work that needed completing on the ‘The Arena’, a dedicated course for drifting vehicles.

With heavy demands put upon the surface, it was important that the product used was highly compactable, very strong, and durable. Working collaboratively with Tidey and Webb Ltd, Aggregate Industries decided on its Supreme asphalt as the best solution due to the stress the site would need to endure and the timescales involved. The expert teams worked around the clock to supply and lay 20 tonnes of the 10mm asphalt, which was used to resurface a patch on the track ready for the event.

Dan Garlick, Goodwood Festival of Speed General Manager, comments: “The repair work was completed in the Arena in under 36 hours, which was ideal given our time constraints. We’re delighted with the performance of Aggregate Industries’ Supreme asphalt and the work of Tidey and Webb Ltd, which allowed us to support a heavy programme of cars drifting in hot conditions. We will definitely bear Supreme in mind when resurfacing is required in future.”
