Cygnus alarm system from Bull Products protects high-rise residential development

  • 1 Oct 2019

Manufacturer of life-saving fire protection, Bull Products is protecting the construction of a new high-rise residential development in London.

The South Quay Plaza development has been designed by Foster + Partners, and will feature 2.6 acres of landscaped gardens, a residents’ club lounge, and a terrace on the 56th floor.

The site consists of three towers, the tallest reaching a height of over 210m, making it the second tallest residential building in London.

Bull Products specified its Cygnus Wireless Alarm System, which was then adapted specifically to the needs of this site to include special timer delay software. This ensures that when a call point is pressed, it won’t sound immediately, but it will still notify the fire marshals and site managers of an alert, so they can verify the alarm before evacuating the entire site.

This important feature has saved contractors huge amounts of time and money due to the industry having a high rate of false alarms and malicious attacks.

Sub-contractor, Trident Electrical, is maintaining the Cygnus system onsite during construction.

Bradley Markham, director at Bull Products, comments: “Alarm systems are pivotal to protect construction developments, in particular, high-rise buildings, where workers need to be able to quickly identify the location of a fire in an emergency and ensure they can evacuate a building quickly and safely.

“Our Cygnus Wireless Alarm System provides the ideal solution for high-rise buildings, thanks to its strong connectivity and ability to connect multiple zones together, thus ensuring maximum fire safety protection for the whole building.”
