Merchant guild recognises Polypipe as Caring for the Environment

Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation – one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of piping, water and climate management systems – has bagged the Caring for the Environment Award in the annual City & Awards Luncheon.

The event was hosted by the Worshipful Company of Builders Merchants (WCoBM) and staged in London’s Haberdashers Hall on March 16.

According to the WCoBM, the award reflects Polypipe Civils’s significant commitment to, and investment in, recycling; its corporate re-positioning to Green Urbanisation as an evolution of infrastructure; and its innovations in water management when it comes to supporting urban greening.

Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation has been operating environmentally-focused projects and initiatives for years; with its parent group maintaining a clear strategic programme for reducing material consumption while increasing recycling and renewable energy usage across all its businesses.

The awards criteria were as broad as they were detailed, ranging from the company’s motivation and objectives – such as converting single-use plastic into recyclable and/or reusable products – in pursuing a sustainable strategy; through to the benefits to customers and society.

Recent recycling milestones reached by Polypipe include: 75% of all consumed polymer being recycled material, the reprocessing – rather than export – of 16,000 tonnes of UK-generated waste each year; 15,000 tonnes carbon dioxide saved per annum, compared with landfill disposal, and 75% of water employed across all recycling and manufacturing being recycled.

Speaking about Green Urbanisation, Steve Durdant-Hollamby, Divisional Managing Director, commented: “In the longer term, our entire agenda is to fundamentally change the supply chain, material specification and construction best practice.

“Green Urbanisation introduces a new generation of technologies that optimises green assets through an extended, integrated sustainable water management network.

“This award is a great fillip for us, acknowledging as it does our great efforts to date, our significant investment and the commitment of our business to make an enduring, positive, sustainable impact upon on our cityscapes.”
