Sidey recently stepped in at the 11th hour to host a Safer Communities Training event for Police Scotland, in conjunction with Scottish Police College in Fife, educating students on the manufacture of glazing and safety glass.
Sidey, Scotland’s strongest fenestration company, was asked to provide a presentation covering the topics of toughened glass, laminate glass, double-glazed units and security in windows and doors.
Because Sidey’s range of products meets Secured by Design standards, the company was also perfectly placed to help educate the student visitors on the police initiative encouraging the building industry to adopt crime prevention measures.
Robert Fitzpatrick, Group Accreditations Manager-HSQE at Sidey, commented: “We were more than happy to help. As soon as we got the call we put together a plan for the day and asked our glass suppliers, Ravensby, if they would like to be involved. It was great that they could offer their time and expertise.”
A group of eight students and two trainers began the day at Ravensby’s premises in Dundee, where MD Gordon Dickson gave a presentation on the different kinds of glass and explained the manufacturing process.
The group then moved on to Perth for a tour of the Sidey factory to see how its range of windows and doors are fabricated, before seeing the finished products in the showroom.
The day came to a close with Robert giving a talk detailing the Secured by Design scheme, product marking and accreditations.
One of the attending trainers, PC Carol Menzies from Safer Communities Training, Crime Management Division at Scottish Police College, commented: “We’d like to thank Sidey for organising the training day at such short notice. The feedback from the students has been excellent and we’ve already booked our next group visit.”
