Biggin Hill Memorial Museum project for Artform Urban furniture

  • 7 Apr 2020

Artform Urban Furniture supplied its granite Ibox benches to the new Biggin Hill Memorial Museum in Kent.

The Ibox Bench is a modular seating system manufactured from High Performance Concrete. The seat is dressed and sanded around the edges and treated with a special transparent satin opaque finish.

All elements have integrated reinforced bushings for lifting and simple positioning on the ground. Due to the modular nature of this range, these elements can create simple yet stunning seating arrangements.

Biggin Hill Memorial Museum is a new cultural building designed by Robin Lee Architecture at the former Royal Air Force station in Biggin Hill, Kent.

Located within the grounds of the Grade II-listed St George’s Chapel of Remembrance, the museum tells the story of Britain’s most famous fighter station and ensures a sustainable future for the Chapel, built in 1951 by order of Winston Churchill.

The new museum building sits low into the landscape and has been designed to frame the Chapel in the manner of a garden wall, allowing the picturesque silhouette of the chapel to stand out. The arrangement creates a quiet and contemplative inner courtyard space.

The Ibox Benches were chosen by contractors, Building Associates, to complement the solid brick exterior walls of the building.

The result is a respectful and peaceful garden space, dedicated to appreciation and memorial.
