Selecting LST Radiator Guards for Hospitals – Contour

  • 19 Oct 2020

Contour understands the challenges that hospitals are faced with when looking for LST radiators, Anti-ligature radiators and the radiator covers, with the priority being the safety and wellbeing of patients by creating an environment they feel comfortable in.

Robust Build

Hospitals experience a lot of heavy traffic, with trolleys, beds and bags knocking and damaging the radiator sides and covers.

Contour has designed LST radiators with safety in mind, ensuring product durability is maximised to limit the risk of destruction. They are made out of 1.5mm Zintec steel, resisting corrosion to further improve the resilience of the radiator.

The radiator covers come with additional folds to provide a higher level of strength, making it more resistant to daily wear.

Contour also offers a range of added options when you purchase LST radiators – to further boost the durability of your radiator in a busy hospital environment.

Options to make covers stronger for more demanding environments can be achieved by upgrading the thickness of the material from 1.5 to 2mm thick and adding in strengthening struts is an option.

Changing the material from Zintec steel to magnelis will enable covers to cope with wet/humid environments such as bathrooms and bedrooms.

Some areas require vertical or bespoke radiator guards to cover up towel radiators or vertical radiators. Contour makes radiators to fit your space perfectly and can help you with your bespoke needs.

Exclusive Biocote® Protection

Contour provides the only radiator guards that are powder coated with BioCote®, an antimicrobial technology that provides effective protection against harmful bacteria, mould, fungi and viruses by up to 99.99%.

This protection is a no brainer when it comes to hospitals where there are strict hygiene protocols and high risk of cross-contamination.

Quicker Cleaning Means Lower Costs

Contour has specifically designed a DeepClean radiator range to improve cleaning efficiency and hygiene standards, resulting in reduced overheads.

The drop-down front panels and quick-release locks allow easy access to the radiators so they can be cleaned quickly and more effectively than regular radiators.

In addition, Rotarad valve fittings can be added so the whole radiator can be easily removed by lowering it down to floor level to be cleaned.

Since 2006, DeepClean has potentially saved the NHS hundreds of millions in operating costs.

Colour Options

Often overlooked, colour can have a huge impact on the environment. Hospitals are known for their white interior, which now psychologically has a ‘clinical’ feel.

Children’s wards are a perfect example of featuring a coloured radiator guard. Leighton Hospital is a perfect example of how to make a hospital room friendly and calming. Whilst still ensuring the highest level of healthcare hygiene and functionality.

The radiator covers were coloured, matching their walls. They became a part of the room rather than another clinical white piece of furniture. To find out more about colour psychology, read our Colour psychology eBook.

Surveys

Contour offer an all site survey, free of charge to help you select the best radiator cover for your environment. The company show you samples and go through a consultation process to discover which design is best suit you.

Age of buildings dictate what needs to be done (cast iron rads/perimeter heating etc) so sometimes a different design is needed, which is specific to that hospital. Contour are more than happy to do this.

Conclusion

When it comes down to deciding which type of radiator and guard to choose, there are many options. However, BioCote® comes as a standard with our radiator guards, because it’s incorporated in the manufacturing process.

Hospitals are busy environments that should not have to compromise when it comes to the safety and wellbeing of their patients.
