Granada Glazing launches new CPD events for architects and specifiers

  • 9 Dec 2020

Architects and specifiers nationwide are being invited to participate in a new series of CPD seminars from Granada Secondary Glazing, focusing on the use of secondary glazing in all types of buildings, including listed and historic properties.

Gary Wood, Granada’s Southern Area Sales Manager, delivered their first face-to-face CPD event since the first lockdown to architects at Atomik Architecture, in Stratford, East London.

Conducted safely with COVID-secure measures in place, the autumn event was attended by several in the studio and three dialling in via Zoom.

Entitled ‘Quietly confident, specify secondary glazing for renovation and newbuild projects’, the comprehensive presentation covered key subjects such as how to achieve the best acoustic, thermal and security performance, reduce a building’s eco footprint and glazing packages for listed buildings.

Gary Wood commented: “The practice had requested our RIBA-certified CPD seminar as they get a lot of calls regarding secondary glazing, especially for historic buildings where this cost-effective system is often the preferred or, indeed, only solution.

“The event was very successful, and the team was really receptive, asking lots of questions.”

Case studies where Granada had provided discreet and effective secondary glazing solutions, such as the Kimpton Fitzroy London Hotel and School of Fine Art, part of the University of Leeds, were also well-received.

Gary explained that, from a product education viewpoint, the University application demonstrated Granada’s bespoke gearing solution to allow the primary and secondary glazing to be opened simultaneously.

While the hotel scheme showcased an effective acoustic solution for a prestigious historic Grade II* listed building in central London. Granada’s secondary glazing can reduce noise levels by as much as 80% (54 decibels).

In total, 900 units were manufactured and installed, increasing both acoustic and thermal insulation.

Gary added: “Case studies are powerful tools for showing what our products can achieve and their content really resonated with the architects.”

Granada Glazing can offer safe and professional CPD courses on request, either at architect practices or at its South Yorkshire-based headquarters, with time allowed afterwards to discuss any specific projects in more detail.

Urging specifiers to get in touch, Mike Latham of Granada’s Commercial Sales said more CPD events will be offered in the coming months and highlighted the value of getting architects involved with a secondary glazing supplier at the early stage of a project.

Mike added: “We look at the building as a whole and our CPD is designed to prompt that kind of thought process with architects and encourage them to think about involving our industry at the earliest stage.

“By bringing our influence to the early stage design process, we can advise on the best ways to address specific issues, such as thermal, acoustic or security, and help specifiers to achieve the required improved performance for their projects.”
