Crown Trade is reinforcing its commitment to a more sustainably built environment with the introduction of two new low VOC products, Crown Trade Clean Extreme® Clean Air® and Crown Trade Extramatt.
The new paints have both been certified as meeting BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) and LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) regulations.
BREEAM is the world’s leading science-based suite of validation and certification system for sustainably built environments, while LEED is the world’s most widely used green building rating system.
The Crown Trade products compliance with both regulations demonstrates Crown’s commitment to producing paints that allow decorators to align with the highest standards in the industry.
Both are low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and are equipped with Crown Trade’s unique breatheasy® 99% solvent free technology.
Clean Extreme Clean Air also features innovative air purifying technology that absorbs formaldehyde from the surrounding environment, helping to improve the air quality of a room from the very first coat.
Formaldehyde is a chemical found in materials like new flooring and furniture which can cause health implications such as skin rashes, shortness of breath, wheezing and changes in lung function.
With Clean Extreme Clean Air and Extramatt, Crown Trade is empowering architects, designers, contractors, and decorators to make sustainable choices that meet their clients’ requirements without compromising on quality or aesthetics.
Kathryn Tormay, Head of Product at Crown Trade, says: “Sustainable design should be the cornerstone of every project and our in-house technical team is constantly innovating, looking for new ways to reduce a product’s environmental impact.
“We’re incredibly proud of the BREEAM and LEED compliance for our Clean Air and Extramatt products. These credentials further cement our dedication to creating a built environment that is visually stunning but also environmentally responsible.”
Crown Trade’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond product innovation. The paint manufacturer also takes proactive steps to minimise waste from decorating, including its market leading Can Back scheme.
The initiative allows old paint cans, from any brand, to be recycled in Crown Decorating Centres.
The Can Back scheme is made possible through Crown’s partnership with NIMTECH, a social enterprise based at Crown Paints’ Hull manufacturing facility, which recycles all the components from the used cans.
