The Lichfield & District Crematorium has been built within the Gardens of Remembrance to provide families with an undisturbed place to visit and hold funeral services for their loved ones.
As part of the project, a waiting area, an office block and a chapel which can hold over 70 people have been built in three separate single-storey buildings.
Cembrit’s Jutland black/blue slates were chosen for installation on the roofs of these buildings.
The project’s roofing contractor specified Cembrit’s fibre cement slates to suit the scenic surroundings of the crematorium.
The slates have been designed as easy to install with a smooth surface and a square edge. They are pre-holed and do not need to be sorted or graded like natural slates.
These properties enabled the project’s installers to fit them promptly, allowing the crematorium to open quickly.
The slates are fabricated using Portland cement, which is combined with a formulation of blended synthetic and cellulose fibres.
After a slate has been manufactured, a semi-matt acrylic coloured coating is applied to its face and edges.
A tinted binder is then painted on to the back face.
Cembrit manufactures its Jutland slates to comply with ISO 9001 and to meet the requirements of BS EN 492: 2004 product specification for fibre cement slates and fittings.
