The course will also include a tour of FIRA’s Flammability Laboratory, where flammability tests on furniture take place
The course has been developed for furniture manufacturers, specifiers, suppliers, importers and retailers.
Its principle purpose is to help them understand the UK’s complex flammability legislation.
FIRA believes it is important for those working with furniture to be aware of these requirements.
There are various flammability regulations which apply to domestic furniture and contract furniture under the General Product Safety Regulations.
FIRA’s flammability course provides an overview of the UK Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations.
An explanation of the standards for contract furniture, including BS7176 for non-domestic seating and BS7177 for mattresses and divans, will also be provided.
These Regulations affect many upholstered furniture products such as sofas, chairs, bean bags, headboards and casual seating.
The course also offers guidance on how delegates can interpret the Regulations for their own products or businesses.
It also looks at why the Regulations were introduced, traceability of materials and requirements for divan bases, mattresses and non-domestic seating.
After delegates complete the course, they are issued with a certificate and given training notes that have been written to assist them with product assessments in the future.
The courses will be held on Thursday 26th March and Wednesday 29th April 2015.
