BM TRADA will showcase its timber and fire expertise to a wider audience in the show’s expanded 100 square metre Live-Zone’.
The stand will feature a fully functioning timber strength testing demonstration model, which tests the strength of various pieces of timber and helps to demonstrate failure modes of timber beams based on different types of defects.
Delegates will also see a demonstration of how beams are placed into the machine, and a gradually increasing load is applied until it breaks.
From that, the strength of the beam can be ascertained and the failure mode analysed.
In addition to the strength testing model, visitors to the BM TRADA stand will have the opportunity to learn about its range of timber related services – from timber frame inspection, timber condition and structural surveys to fire and security testing of timber doors and windows.
A team of technical experts will also demonstrate elements of the PAS 24 test on an enhanced security timber window.
They will also showcase the difference in performance between two seemingly identical timber fire doors using a test scenario filmed at its High Wycombe labs.
The exhibit will allow visitors to discover the intricacies of timber-frame construction with a scaled down version of a timber-frame house, with cut away sections displaying important detailing including cladding and insulation.
Further demonstrations will also cover identifying and examining timber species, demonstrating the methods employed to verify the wood species in a product, and an introduction into the intricacies of timber strength grading.
