Glazing products for Sillivan Way

Glazing products specified for industrial heritage project

Spectus Window Systems and Worsley Glass have provided glazing products for an apartment development in a historic area of Greater Manchester.

Based around a former listed brewery and lodging house, Salford’s Sillavan Way development required an extraordinary solution to ensure it blended in with the existing historical buildings on site.

The result is four apartment blocks, which have been constructed around a central courtyard garden and retail units.

The original three iconic buildings now accommodate commercial, residential and professional facilities, but retain their red brick exterior, which characterises much of historic Greater Manchester.

Since completion, the development has fulfilled the local authority’s aspiration for a landmark feature at the main route into the city centre, Trinity Way.

Glazing from Spectus

Executive developer, Renaker, awarded the second phase of the project to Worsley Glass, fabricator of the Spectus Elite 70 bevelled system

With almost 600 casement windows and over 100 pairs of French doors in the system, RAL 7016 anthracite was selected for the exterior of the frames, to compliment the brick work of the contemporary and traditional buildings.

Weather tightness was integral to the specification, with the tallest block reaching 17 storeys. The selected windows and doors offer a U-value of 1.2, whilst acoustic glass was used on several elevations on the upper floors.

Spectus supported Worsley Glass throughout the project, providing advice on technical details and supplying coloured profile in time. Following the project’s completion, Renaker appointed Worsley Glass as its supply chain partner for a subsequent apartment development.
