EF Language School Senior

Hybrid range specified for Cambridge school building envelope

  • 2 Dec 2015

Senior Architectural System’s Hybrid range of doors, windows and curtain walling has been installed at the recently completed Education First (EF) language school in Cambridge.

The language school is located in a historic Edwardian villa in a natural area close to Cambridge’s city centre. The school is arranged with classrooms spread over two levels, linked by a central glazed atrium. A key requirement for the project was to create a building that maximises both natural light and ventilation.

Installed by Ali Systems, Senior’s Hybrid range combines the durability of aluminium externally with the environmental and aesthetic benefits of timber internally, making it an ideal choice for the scheme.

The Hybrid Series 3 curtain walling was used to create the school’s double height atrium, with the slim sightlines of the Hybrid Series 2 windows specified to further complement the building’s architectural heritage.

Senior’s SD automatic doors were also used to complete the installation.

Award-winning design

Prior to its refurbishment, the property was struggling to meet the rigorous demands of a modern educational facility.

The space has since been reinvented to create an inspiration learning environment whilst remaining sympathetic to the building’s heritage.

The building has gone on to be recognised with a number of architectural accolades including RIBA East Regional Award 2015, a Historic England Conservation Award and Cambridge Design and Construction Award.
