Assisted accessible toilet fitted in prestigious shopping centre

Solihull’s Touchwood Shopping Centre has opened an assisted accessible toilet to provide appropriate facilities for those who need the help of a carer to use the bathroom.

With the average adult needing to go to the toilet eight times a day, those who need help with their personal hygiene may have to curtail trips or avoid certain places due to a lack of suitable facilities.

To tackle this, Tony Clough, a Changing Places campaigner, approached Solihull’s popular Touchwood Shopping Centre. He helped the establishment to see what a difference an assisted accessible toilet would make to the thousands of people who visit Touchwood for its shops, bars and restaurants.

Following Tony’s advice, the Centre fitted a Changing Places suite in its Orange welcome hall. With more space than a conventional wheel-chair accessible toilet, the new facility features a ceiling track hoist and an adult-sized adjustable changing bench.

It was supplied and installed by Clos-o-Mat, a company which aims to deliver in-house design advice, project management and maintenance across a range of accessible toileting equipment.

Touchwood’s Changing Places suite is open from 7.00am until midnight from Monday to Saturday and 9.00am until midnight on Sundays.
