Energy efficient air conditioning at Paper Mill Studios

Energy efficient air conditioning system specified for silent solution

  • 15 Feb 2016

Mitsubishi Electric’s air conditioning systems have been specified to provide an energy efficient, whisper-quiet heating solution for a contemporary London film studio.

Set in a traditional, Islington-based Victorian industrial building, Paper Mill Studios offers a variety of film and photography services. The contemporary space is used by many, including a number of celebrity chefs.

Originally a disused warehouse, the establishment now features Reglit glazed walling, vertical external zinc standing seam cladding and a glazed roof to the rear courtyard. However, several of its original features, such as its timber beams and floor joists, have been stylishly preserved.

Quiet & efficient air conditioning

As the refurbishment of the building was being carried out, 361 Degrees was contracted to source an energy efficient heating and cooling solution.

The studio’s developers required a quiet solution, which would not interfere with filming, photography and business.

Adhering to this brief, 361 Degrees specified a City Multi heat pump air conditioning system from Mitsubishi Electric, which was installed with a combination of wall mounted and exposed ducted fan coil units. These were dispersed in various rooms throughout the building.

A Lossnay heat recovery ventilation system was also fitted to ensure that the energy from outgoing stale air is recovered and reused to heat the incoming fresh air.

The combined air conditioning system offers a quiet heating solution, which operates efficiently throughout the four storey building.
