PURe windows successfully fitted in first UK application

Senior Architectural Systems’ PURe windows have been specified for installation in a new Derby-based primary school. The project has become Britain’s first to feature the thermally-efficient windows.

PURe is the UK’s first aluminium window system to feature an expanded polyurethane foam barrier, which offers enhanced thermal performance.

With PUR as a thermal barrier, the system can improve a building’s carbon calculations, whilst offering low U-values of 0.71w/m2k.

The energy efficient system can help to cut operational carbon emissions by making buildings easier to heat; the PUR thermal barrier can be re-used as fillers for other products, whilst its aluminium frame offers ‘cradle to cradle’ recycling. Overall, the system’s environmental credentials have helped it to achieve a Green Guide rating of ‘A’ for use in commercial developments.

Designed to meet the Passivhaus standard cycle, Senior’s PURe windows exceed the current requirements of the Building Regulations’ Part L.

Installing PURe windows

The window system was specified for installation in Derby’s new Carlyle Infant School by contractors Bowmer & Kirkland and Bond Bryan architects; a number of PURe casement windows were subsequently fitted by Allied Glazing.

Senior’s technical team provided assistance throughout the contract, successfully carrying out the first UK application of the system.

Allied Glazing commented on the ease of fabrication, praising the system’s technically advanced construction and impressive thermal performance. The company is looking forward to working with the PURe system on future contracts.
