Protan’s flat roof membranes have been installed in the construction of two new eco-friendly fire stations at Birley and Parkway in South Yorkshire.
BAM Construction built two new fire stations for South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue to replace the current ageing stations.
Both stations were built to include environmental features such as air heat source pumps and PV panels.
This approach was continued in the construction of the roofs, which feature a combination of single ply and green roof, constructed by FCB Roofing using a Protan VB250 vapour control layer topped with Protan SE membrane and G membrane.
Birley Fire Station is deliberately low-rise; it features a sloping green roof to help it blend into the neighbouring hills and wood. The two-storey Parkway Station is designed to ‘nestle below the road’ with a combination of green and grey single ply roofing to blend into its surroundings.
Protan’s roof membranes are made from environmentally-friendly raw materials and manufactured using hydro power. They are also welded using an environmentally friendly hot air technique.
Protan SE is available in 1.2mm, 1.6mm and 1.8mm. It is developed to cope with adverse weather conditions, certified to ≤ -30°.
The membrane achieves a durability in excess of 30 years with air leakage minimised in line with latest Building Regulations.
It is also certified to deliver and potentially surpass the energy efficiency requirements set out in Approved Document L and achieve an A+ rating under the Green Guide.
Protan G is a glass fibre reinforced, microbe durable PVC membrane for gravel ballasted roofs, inverted roofs and green roofs.
