Sika has launched a new variation of its SikaProof waterproofing system for below-ground applications which allows the membrane to be applied to concrete post-construction.
SikaProof P-12 is a full and permanently bonded self-adhesive composite sheet membrane waterproofing system developed for reinforced concrete structures including horizontal slabs, decks and podiums, vertical walls, extensions and reconstruction works, and precast concrete structures.
The system comprises a flexible polyolefin (FPO)-based membrane which is pre-coated with an adhesive sealant layer.
SikaProof P-12 is cold-applied and can be installed onto hardened concrete structures or after double-sided formwork on a wide range of basement applications using a straightforward ‘peel and stick’ process.
It provides an effective waterproofing and concrete protection solution for basements and other below ground structures and safeguards against water ingress with no lateral water underflow.
The SikaProof P-12 is a variant of the already established pre-applied SikaProof-A membrane.
SikaProof-A is applied onto the substrate before concrete is poured, consisting of an embossed, flexible polyolefin membrane with a factory-applied grid pattern of sealant, protected by a non-woven fleece laminated into the sealant grid.
The bond is created when the fleece is adhered to fresh concrete. This prevents any lateral water underflow or migration between the membrane system and structural concrete. The externally-applied system is effective even when local damage occurs to the membrane.
SikaProof is based on Sika’s proven membrane technology which the company has used since the early 1990s in tunnel waterproofing.
The user-friendly product delivers a long life expectancy, even in aggressive conditions, such as seawater and soil with high sulphate content, or humid and other acids.
SikaProof P-12 has been tested to ASTM D 5385 and CE certification in accordance with British Standard EN 13967.
It is ideally suited for use in waterproofing reinforced concrete basements and other below-ground structures in housing, commercial, leisure, manufacturing and warehouse developments. Engineered structures such as retaining walls can also be protected using the system.
