Crown Trade coatings receive Environmental Product Declarations

  • 5 Apr 2016

Four Crown Trade coatings have been awarded Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) in compliance with the European Standard EN 15804.

Products include Crown Trade Fastflow Primer Undercoat and Crown Trade Fastflow Gloss. The Fastflow system delivers all the benefits of an oil-based system in a water-based formulation.

Crown Trade Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt has also been EPD verified. Ideal for high traffic areas including healthcare, education and housing, Clean Extreme allows for repetitive cleaning with the added benefit of excellent stain resistance.

The final product to be awarded an EPD certificate is Crown Trade Matt Vinyl, a flat matt emulsion for interior use on wall and ceiling surfaces.

Environmental Product Declarations

Environmental Product Declarations are full lifecycle assessments of a product’s environmental impact, from raw materials and manufacturing through to end of life.

The EPD verification scheme is operated by BRE, to allow product manufacturers to communicate their product’s sustainability credentials to customers.

EPDs are carried out through the standardised method defined by EN 15804 and aligned with the environmental requirements of BREEAM and LEED, and the SKA rating scheme. Each EPD is independently verified to ensure that the data and resulting reports are reliable.

Crown Paints sustainability journey

The development of the EPDs builds upon the success of Crown Paints sustainability programme, Earthbalance, which was introduced in 2008.

Earthbalance focuses on changing the way Crown Paints does business in terms of social responsibility, the environment and the economy. The scheme has won a string of awards – most recently the Sustainability accolade at the Lloyds Bank National Business Awards.

Crown Paints’ Marketing Manager Debbie Orr commented: “Our focus on manufacturing high quality, professional products with the reassurance of a genuine commitment to sustainability makes Crown Trade a compelling choice for specifiers.

For more than 200 years we have produced paints in the UK that blend together quality and innovation to offer a trusted means of transforming and protecting environments indoors and out. We continue to develop products and services that support specifiers with their projects and the introduction of these EPDs is illustrative of that.”
