A London-based listed property has undergone a complete refurbishment; its residents are now benefitting from Black Millwork‘s acoustically sound windows and doors, which were installed to reduce noise levels.
Accommodating a ground-level shop, as well as four residential flats, the listed property is situated in London’s popular borough of Convent Garden.
As a result of its busy location, the building has been polluted by high levels of noise since its construction. It was, thus, essential that its new windows provided an acoustic sound level noise reduction.
The new windows had to be selected carefully; due to the listed nature of the building, the fenestration had to match the existing Victorian fittings to pass the planning process.
To provide an acoustically sound solution with a traditional aesthetic, Black Millwork supplied its sliding sash windows for installation. Whilst boasting a glass specification with sound reduction qualities, the windows also offer an energy efficient U-value of 1.5.
The company also supplied a series of French and rear entrance doors, with acceptable energy and acoustic ratings. Following the installation of Black Millwork’s systems, the building’s noise levels were tested; an impressive reduction of 46 decibels was recorded.
Overall, the refurbishment took eight months to complete, beginning in August 2014 and reaching completion last April.
