Charcon paving materials specified for Trafalgar Place

Charcon has supplied approximately 3,500m² of hard landscaping materials to the Trafalgar Place residential project in Elephant & Castle. The development has been hailed by The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson MP for its ‘design innovation and longevity.’

The project is part of a £1.5 billion regeneration scheme taking place across 28 acres of London. 

The latest development has seen an office block converted into 235 homes, in which Charcon was consulted to recommend appropriate hard landscaping materials which would establish a relationship between the green spaces of the private communal and public areas, to the adjacent buildings and edges.

Charcon paving products

Architects dRMM specified 1,840m² of Charcon’s Andover Textured flag and block paving in a three colour blend of Midnight Grey, Silver Grey and Light Grey. The paving was laid in five different block sizes throughout the areas main tree-lined avenues.

Charcon also supplied 1,050m² of Appalachian flag paving in Leemoor Ground. Incorporating up to 60% recycled and reclaimed materials, the paving was used for an upper private courtyard podium.

The hard landscaping experts also created a bespoke 250m² of ‘Special’ Appalachian Leemoor for the project. Charcon’s specialists used a double process prior to sandblasting to expose a greater amount of aggregate, to produce a polished finish that created a distinctive contrast of textures within the courtyard.

100 linear metres of Natural Granite kerbs and radii in Silver Grey were used to create features throughout the development, and 240m² of Europa block paving in Brindle was laid in the heavy-use pedestrianised areas.

Trafalgar Place

Trafalgar Place has won several awards including the Mayor’s Award for Planning Excellence and Best New Place to Live at the London Planning Awards 2016.

Architects dRMM collaborated with landscape architect Grant Associates on planning the project, which was managed by developer Lendlease. Landscape architecture company Randle Siddeley was invited to complete the detailed landscape design.
