The Wraptite-SA airtight membrane has been used in the creation of a ‘Zero Bills Home’ at the BRE Innovation Park in Watford.
The Zero Bills Home has been developed by the RIBA award winning ZEDfactory in conjunction with the Zero Bills Home Company to offer a fresh approach to the challenges facing the housing market.
The design aims to minimise energy requirements and offer a sustainable solutions to the demand for more housing.
It is set to be one of the first homes assessed under BRE’s new Home Quality Mark, a star rating system on the quality and sustainability of new homes. It is also awaiting planning permission for use on a new 94 home development in Newport Essex for the Sir Arthur Ellis Trust.
A. Proctor’s self-adhering vapour permeable air barrier formed a key part of the OSB panel construction of the home.
The BBA-certified Wraptite-SA made a significant contribution to the building’s thermal performance by preventing lateral air movement and provided high vapour permeability.
The membrane was externally applied to the OSB boards in continuous pieces, resulting in an airtightness of 1.3 ac/h at 50 pascals.
The systems high vapour permeability also allows damp sheathing to dry quickly and moisture vapour to escape, ensuring good indoor air quality to reduce the likelihood of mould, mildew, condensation, timber distortion and metal corrosion.
