Following the launch of its fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) design software, which has been developed for reinforced concrete, Sika has hosted two structural strengthening workshops to introduce construction engineers to the product.
Sika commenced the seminar sessions with a presentation, explaining the benefits of FRP structural plates and fabrics, which can be used as a corrosion-resistant alternative to traditional steel reinforcements.
Examples of different applications – from buildings to bridges – were also discussed to exemplify the diversity of FRP.
Delegates were then given demonstrations of Sika’s CarboDur and SikaWrap structural strengthening systems, before being introduced to the company’s new FRP software based on TR55 and Eurocode 2.
The software has been designed to account for the variables of each project: it takes elements such as load, dimensions and structure shape into consideration. This information is used to calculate the most suitable product and quantity to provide the strengthening required.
The software can determine the FRP dimensions required to provide flexural and shear strengthening, or confinement of reinforced concrete sections.
It has been developed with a simplified data entry system, auxiliary drawings and tool tips to ensure ease of use throughout each stage.
