A Sika-Trocal waterproofing solution has been specified for a multi-million pound student accommodation development at Bangor University in Gwynedd.
Designed by FaulknerBrowns, the St Mary’s student village complex accommodates five new residential blocks or townhouses, launderette facilities, a shop, sports and fitness centre and a café and bar.
Contractor Weatherwell Roofing specified Sika-Trocal Type S for installation at each of the new townhouses, which are set around a village square.
The waterproofing membrane was fitted on top of an S-Vap 500E vapour control layer and 140mm Kingspan insulation; on each roof, the product was laid over the insulation onto the timber deck and mechanically fastened with Sika-Trocal’s laminated metal disc system.
The installation was carried out by Weatherwell, in conjunction with the project’s main contractor, Vinci.
Specified in Slate Grey, the Type S waterproofing membrane ensured that any detailing, such as capping vents or curved cone features, was achieved. All edge cappings were manufactured from Sika-Trocal Metal, instead of standard powder coated copings, to provide a neat finish.
