Cembrit’s Duquesa natural slates have been specified for use on a large ASDA store, which has been erected on a disused site in Hertfordshire.
East Hertfordshire Council recently approved a project to revive a derelict estate in Ware. The site now accommodates a multi-million pound ASDA store, which has delivered over 100 jobs to the local community.
The project’s primary contractor, Mace Group, appointed Bracknell Roofing to carry out the roofing element of the development. To achieve the required balance between cost and aesthetics, the two companies specified Cembrit Duquesa natural slates for installation.
Bracknell fitted around 40,000 grey Duquesa slates on the new mansard roof and the existing building, which offers 800 square metres of space for use as the main store’s back house.
As a product familiar to Bracknell, Duquesa was installed quickly, enabling the company to meet its tight deadline: the roofing project was successfully completed within 14 weeks.
Produced by quarries in Spain, Duquesa is considered one of the best Spanish natural slate brands available in the United Kingdom. The tough material boasts a smooth texture, offering a durable roofing solution for a variety of applications and projects such as schools, city offices and supermarkets.
The slate can withstand adverse weather conditions and remain unaffected by sunlight, ultraviolet light and acid rain. Duquesa has been tested to ensure that it adheres to the current national standard, BS EN 12326-1:2004.
