Steve Rotheram MP expresses desire to tackle fuel poverty

Liverpool’s MPs express desire to tackle fuel poverty

  • 14 Jul 2016

In order to demonstrate his commitment to supporting Liverpudlian businesses, Labour MP Steve Rotheram paid a recent visit to Knauf Insulation’s plant, accompanied by Marie Rimmer, Labour MP for St. Helens South and Whiston.

With recent government figures showing almost 30,000 Liverpool households in fuel poverty, Rotheram – a candidate for the next Mayor of Liverpool – intends to tackle such home energy efficiency issues.

Britain’s housing stock is ageing and under-insulated; many families struggle to meet their energy bills, which are often higher than they need to be. Recently released DECC figures suggest that 14.3% of Liverpudlian homes are in fuel poverty, whilst Britain’s fuel poverty has increased by 1.5% as a whole.

Tackling fuel poverty

As a passionate campaigner for tackling energy efficiency issues, Knauf Insulation welcomed Rotheram and Rimmer to its St. Helens plant.

The company, which recognises the necessity for greater measures to tackle Britain’s household energy problems, was impressed by the MPs’ desire to highlight the challenges posed by fuel poverty.

Knauf Insulation will support Steve Rotheram MP’s vision for housing, apprenticeships and advanced manufacturing as he campaigns for the position of Mayor of London.
