CMS to provide sustainable glazing systems to Arran ferry terminal

  • 9 Aug 2016

CMS Window Systems has secured a contract with Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) to provide its glazing systems to the redevelopment of the ferry terminal at Brodick Harbour on the Isle of Arran.

CMS will fabricate and install over 600m2 of Metal Technology curtain walling for the terminal, as well as doors and an internal screen system, as part of a wider £22.2 million project.

The project, led by civil engineering contractor George Leslie Ltd, began earlier this year, with completion expected in mid-2017. It aims to modernise and transform the original site by maintaining and improving the ferry services between the Isle of Arran and mainland Scotland, providing solutions which will last for at least the next 60 years.

The redevelopment will include a new pier, an increased marshalling area through reclaimed land and a modern terminal building with bus stances and extensive parking facilities.

Metal Technology curtain walling

CMS will supply 634m2 of Metal Technology’s System 17 curtain walling system for a building envelope which prioritises environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

Doors from Metal Technology’s System 5 and System 9 have also be chosen to be installed internally and externally, in addition to a three-leaf manual revolving door at the building’s front entrance.

CMAL’s Head of Civil Engineering, Ramsay Muirhead, commented: “The ferry terminal infrastructure at Brodick is now nearing the end of its serviceable life and the project will see the harbour transformed. The new terminal building will improve the passenger experience.”
