A bespoke CLIQ locking system has been designed to protect vital infrastructure at Llyn Brenig Reservoir and Visitor Centre, without compromising visitor access.
Since the late 1970s, Llyn Brenig Reservoir has controlled the flow of the River Dee, supplying water to domestic, commercial and industrial establishments throughout north-east Wales and north-west England.
Each year, the reservoir and its organic surroundings attract approximately 190,000 visitors for fishing, cycling, water sports and wildlife watching.
Welsh Water sought a security solution with the flexibility to protect the reservoir’s infrastructure, whilst allowing tourist access: the site is home to valuable plant equipment, which is threatened by fuel and metal theft.
A weatherproof system, with the ability to withstand North Wales’ harsh climate, was required.
ASSA ABLOY’s CLIQ technology was specified as a solution; a master key system was designed to cater for Welsh Water’s exact requirements.
Llyn Brenig Reservoir and its visitor centre have been equipped with padlocks, cylinders and electromechanical keys from the Protec2 CLIQ range. The external padlocks have been manufactured from boron steel to ensure protection against drilling, cutting and sawing. A plastic cover provides additional defence against dust and impact.
CLIQ technology enables Llyn Brenig’s site manager to download audit trails and delete missing keys from the system. Key access rights can be changed on demand, ensuring the maintenance of high security on site.
